The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine calls on the Russian Federation and the forces it backs to release Ukrainian journalists unjustly detained for their work in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.
“On this International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we stand with the Ukrainian people in calling for justice for the families of Georgiy Gongadze, Pavel Sheremet and other journalists who tragically lost their lives in courageous pursuit of the truth,” the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine posted on Facebook.
In addition, the Embassy calls on Russia and the forces it backs to immediately release Ukrainian journalists unjustly detained for their work in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.
The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists is marked on November 2.
As reported, in October, journalist Yevhen Hayvoronsky was detained in Crimea and journalist Stanislav Aseev was sentenced to 15 years in prison in occupied Donetsk.
