The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has recommended that Ukrainian citizens not participate in rallies, demonstrations and protests in Hong Kong.
The relevant recommendations have been posted on the Facebook page of the ministry's consular service department.
"Due to the escalation of the security situation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, PRC, due to mass protests that led to the cancellation of flights at the international airport, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recommends that citizens of Ukraine [...] restrict movement within Hong Kong, avoid places of mass gathering of people and not participate in rallies and demonstrations," the report reads.
Ukrainians were also advised to keep track of reports in the media and from local authorities regarding the situation.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been participating in mass demonstrations in Hong Kong for several months because of the authorities' intention to adopt an extradition law that would allow the city to transfer criminal suspects to mainland China. According to the organizers, more than a million people took part in the rallies.
All flights were canceled at the Hong Kong airport on Monday, August 12, after thousands of protesters occupied the terminal building.
