The UN General Assembly is one of the main platforms for Ukraine to protest the occupation of part of the country’s east and the Crimean peninsula.
That’s according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky who spoke with journalists while on a New York visit, Ukrinform reports citing Dom TV.

Asked whether he believed in the UN effectiveness in resolving the issue of the occupied part of Donbas and Crimea, Zelensky said: "It is difficult to say. But one of the central platforms where leaders meet of the countries on which the situation depends is the UN General Assembly. ".

He stressed that Ukraine should set an example of a country that does not betray its interests.

"And we mustn’t only speak up, we must also demand appropriate action. We are searching for a solution to Donbas and Crimea on all platforms. Indeed, the UN is one of the major platforms. So we mustn’t miss this opportunity," said the president.

Zelensky pointed at the need to make the most effective use of his ongoing visit by holding bilateral meetings with other leaders.

It should be recalled that Zelensky arrived in New York on Monday to participate in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
