President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin discussed the humanitarian situation in Donbas.
"On Saturday, February 8, 2020, His Holiness Pope Francis granted the audience to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Later, President Zelensky met with Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin accompanied by Archbishop Gallagher, the Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States," the Vatican News reported.

The talks at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See were focused mainly on the humanitarian situation and the search for peace "in the context of the conflict that has been plaguing Ukraine since 2014."

A common desire was expressed that all parties involved should be as sensitive as possible to the needs of the population, the first and foremost victim of violence, as well as to persistence and consistency in dialogue.

President Zelensky and Cardinal Parolin also discussed the issues of further bilateral cooperation and the Catholic Church's contribution to the development of Ukrainian society.
