The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has adopted the law ratifying the agreement between Ukraine and Brazil on mutual legal assistance and legal relations in civil matters.
A total of 332 MPs voted for the document at a parliament meeting on Tuesday, January 14, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the agreement between Ukraine and Brazil on mutual legal assistance and legal relations in civil matters, signed in Brasilia on August 2, 2018, which enters into force 30 days after the date of receipt through diplomatic channels of the last written notification confirming that internal procedures needed for the entry into force of this agreement have been complied with by the parties.
The agreement will help establish an effective mechanism for cooperation between the competent authorities of the two states in civil, commercial and administrative matters, including the mutual recognition and enforcement of judgments in such cases, as well as convictions in civil proceedings.
The provisions of the agreement enshrine the right of citizens of either party and persons residing in its territory to free access to justice and equal rights and obligations with citizens and persons residing in the territory of the other party in a proceeding in the territory of the other party, the right to exemption from legal fees, the right of citizens of one party to receive free legal assistance on the same terms and to the same extent as nationals and persons residing in the territory of the other party. These provisions shall also apply to legal entities formed in accordance with the laws of either party.
