Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic to study the project of a car bridge connecting Russia’s Primorsky Region and North Korea, the president’s envoy to the Far Eastern federal district said on Monday.

"This question was discussed during Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin’s meeting with the North Korean leader. The head of the state resolved to take the Far Eastern development ministry with analyzing this project," Yuri Trutnev said.

He did not elaborate on when the project may be designed.

The 39.4-km border with North Korea (of which about 22 km are maritime boundaries) is the shortest of Russia’s international borders. It runs largely along the Tumen River. The two states are connected by air and the railway-only Friendship Bridge over the Tumen River.

Earlier, Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexander Kozlov said the automobile bridge will be built in accordance with Russian standards.
