The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine approved the decision to impose new sanctions on Russia at its meeting on December 26.
The sanctions are imposed over Russia's aggression in the Kerch Strait and organization of so-called "elections" in the occupied Donbas, the press service of the Council reports.
"The restrictive measures are adopted on the organizers of the so-called ‘elections’ in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as against the military personnel, the judges and the law enforcement officers involved in the illegal seizure of Ukrainian sailors during the Russian aggression against Ukraine in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018 and their illegal detention in Russian prisons," reads the statement.
In addition, the National Security and Defense Council supported the imposition of sanctions primarily on the legal entities and individuals - Russian companies, businessmen, politicians and lawmakers, law enforcement officials - that have actively supported or contributed to the aggressive actions against Ukraine.
According to the press service, the meeting participants analyzed the results of the measures taken within the framework of the legal regime of martial law and approved the main indicators of the state defense order for 2019-2021.
As reported, during the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on December 26, the President of Ukraine announced the termination of martial law, which had been imposed in ten Ukrainian regions for 30 days due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine in the Sea of Azov.
