Over the past seven days, more than 2,300 people get sick with measles in Ukraine. This figure is 11.5 percent more than the figure reported two weeks ago, Ukraine's Healthcare Ministry stated.
According to the Public Healthcare Centre of the Ministry, the actual number made 2,384 people, including 1,603 minors and 741 adults.
The Ministry insists that vaccination is the only reliable way to protect oneself against the disease. The authority specified that there are enough effective vaccines in every region of the country to cover the needs of the patients.
'Since the beginning of the year, 44,386 people got sick with measles in Ukraine (...) 15 died of complications since the beginning of the year, including four adults and 11 children', the Ministry reported.
Most cases are observed in the regions where the level of scheduled vaccination appears to be the lowest: it's the western regions (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattya regions), Odesa region and Kyiv.
The authority urges parents to get their children vaccinated, abiding by the vaccinations schedule. The list of those who can get vaccinated for free includes those under 18 years old, as well as the adults from the risk group - the military, Donbas conflict participants, students, teachers and medics.
