Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the presidential press service has reported.
Poroshenko informed Trudeau about an open act of aggression committed by Russia against Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait, a buildup of Russian military presence on the border and steps being taken by Ukraine to de-escalate Russian aggression, including the introduction of martial law.

Trudeau said that Canada fully supports Ukraine, its territorial integrity, freedom of navigation and condemns the aggressive actions of Russia.

Poroshenko called on the civilized world to increase pressure on Russia to release Ukrainian sailors who are considered prisoners of war by international law.

The sides also coordinated positions on protecting Ukraine ahead of the G20 summit, which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
