Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not rule out Turkey's mediation between Ukraine and Russia in settling the situation related to the latest developments in the Sea of Azov.
He said this while answering journalists' questions at Istanbul Ataturk Airport before leaving for to Buenos Aires, Anadolu reports.
"Commenting on the latest developments in the Sea of Azov, Erdogan said he was discussing ways out of the current situation, including the possibility of Turkey's mediation, during telephone conversations with Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine," the statement says.
On November 25, Russian border ships committed aggressive actions against Ukrainian vessels that set sail from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. Russian special forces fired on and seized three Ukrainian ships and 24 sailors in the Kerch Strait.
On November 26, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law approving a presidential decree on the introduction of martial law in Ukraine for 30 days in ten regions of the country due to Russian aggression in the Sea of Azov.
