Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has held a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, according to the MFA’s website.
"Dmytro Kuleba told Dunja Mijatović about systematic human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and in Crimea," reads the report.
He called on the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights to increase efforts to establish regular monitoring, including remote monitoring, of the human rights situation in the occupied territories in accordance with the principles of international law and national legislation of Ukraine.
The minister raised an issue of the release of Ukrainian citizens illegally detained by the Russian Federation.
"We look forward to strengthening the role of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights both in the context of monitoring the observance of the rights of illegally detained Ukrainians and for their speedy release," the Ukrainian diplomat said.
In addition, Kuleba drew attention to the escalation of the security situation by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and in Crimea, which may result in the deterioration of the already difficult human rights situation.
As reported by Ukrinform, according to data provided by Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova, 413 Ukrainians are illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and in Crimea.
