The Russian Federation's actions in Crimea and Donbas completely fall under the definition of aggression in the UN General Assembly Resolution “Definition of Aggression” which was adopted 45 years ago.
This is underscored in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of adoption of the resolution.

"Since 2014, Ukraine has consistently qualified the Russian Federation's illegal actions in Crimea and Donbas as acts of aggression. We clearly and consistently prove that such actions of the Russian Federation completely fall under the definition of aggression in accordance with paragraphs a), b), c), d ), e) and g) of Article 3 of the Annex to the UN General Assembly Resolution No. 3314 (XXIX), "Definition of Aggression" which was adopted 45 years ago," the statement reads.

The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that this landmark consensus on the need for universal respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter was developed in 2018 by the application of the 1998 Kampala Amendments to the Rome Statute, according to which the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court was extended to the crime of aggression.

"War crimes and crimes against humanity in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions are of a large-scale, systemic nature and are a consequence of the international armed conflict unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine on February 20, 2014," the Foreign Ministry stresses.

The Foreign Ministry states that the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine relentlessly increases the number of casualties, which, according to international organizations' estimates, has reached more than 40 thousand people, of whom more than 14 thousand people have been killed. 1.5 million people have become internally displaced.

"We are grateful to our partners for a clear and consolidated stance on the invariable status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as an integral part of Ukraine, as well as the need for peaceful settlement of the international armed conflict based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the international borders. We look forward to further support of the international community in countering the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and bringing the Russian Federation legally responsible for the damage caused to Ukraine, its citizens and legal entities," reads the statement.
