An Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia has been opened in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.
During the opening ceremony, diplomats announced the launch of Zaporizhzhia-Riga flight, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“This is my first visit to Zaporizhzhia. We opened the fifth honorary consulate in Ukraine. We have many ideas for cooperation, in particular, the opening of a direct flight on the Zaporizhzhia-Riga route. Our national airline company AirBaltic is interested in such cooperation,” Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said.
According to Chairman of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Vitaliy Turynok, the visit of the Latvian delegation and the opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Zaporizhzhia will give a powerful impetus to the development of cooperation between Ukraine and Latvia, including at the interregional level.
"We are one step closer to Latvia. We discussed a lot of issues for cooperation, as well as problematic issues and ways to solve them,” the governor said.
As noted, the Government of Latvia provides humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including the treatment of Ukrainian soldiers.
