Ukraine's Presidential Office plans to increase the number of recipients of subsidies by about a million families, the president's representative in the Cabinet of Ministers, Andriy Gerus, has said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
"Some households, who would have to use subsidies because they are poor, have lost the right to them. We are analyzing how it is possible to change the criteria so that the people who really need assistance could receive subsidies. According to my estimates, the issue concerns about an additional one million families who may also be granted targeted assistance," Gerus said.
He added that this list mainly consists of retirees who are over 70 years old since this is an unsecured population.
Ukraine's state budget for 2019 envisages UAH 55 billion for subsidies, including UAH 12 billion to be received by Ukrainians in cash. The monetization of subsidies was launched in March 2019.
