The population of the planet will increase in the next 30 years two billion people and in 2050 it will reach 9.7 billion people. This forecast, according to TASS, is contained in published on Monday a new report by the United Nations (UN) on the global demographic changes.

50% of the total population growth in the next three decades will occur in ten countries – India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and the United States. In 2027, experts predict the UN, India will overtake China and take first place in the world by population. The population of tropical Africa by 2050 will be doubled.

The fastest growing population in the poorest countries of the world. This results in “difficulties in the fight against poverty, inequality and hunger, but also undermines efforts to strengthen education systems and health,” says Liu Jingmin, Deputy Secretary General of the UN on economic and social issues.

The UN report also said that the world’s population is aging, and this primarily applies to the countries of Europe and North America. In 2018 the number of people aged 65 years and older exceeded the number of children under five years.

The main causes of population ageing in the report called the increase in life expectancy and decline in fertility.

According to the authors of the report, now in the world per woman on average, there are 2.5 newborn child, and by 2050 this figure will be 2.2 children per woman. Population aging leads to a decline in the proportion of people of working age, which leads to serious problems related to social security of the elderly, pensions.

In addition, the authors of the report pay attention to the increase in the number of countries experiencing population decline, linked primarily to the fall in the birth rate. By 2050, in 55 countries, the population reduced by at least 1%. Among them – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The population of Russia, which is now about 144 million people, by 2050 will be reduced by 11 million people, says the UN forecast.
